BBQs and sunny days go together like a match made in heaven. We like to think overdone sausages, paper plates and soggy salad are a thing of the past; new BBQs are much more exciting for the palette – and the guests! If you’re planning your very own garden get together this summer, make sure to read through our delicious recipes and take some inspiration from our top entertainment ideas.

A burger with a twist

A Burger with a Twist

If you’re seeking something a little more original than beef burgers (we certainly are), why not whip up some turkey, courgette and feta burgers? The method is much the same as it is for normal burgers, with just a switch of ingredients: 500g turkey mince, 1 spiralized courgette, 100g feta, 1 egg, garlic and a little lemon juice, salt and pepper. Simply mix all the ingredients in a large bowl, shape into burgers and leave to chill for 15 mins. It’s always a good idea to pre-cook meat, so brush each burger with a little olive oil and grill until cooked through before transferring to the BBQ.

Veggie Tabbouleh

Veggie Tabbouleh

Your vegetarian guests certainly don’t have to be stuck with a Portobello mushroom in a bun. Instead, whip up a delicious veggie tabbouleh. Start by preparing bulgar wheat according to the instructions on the packet and cover with a tea towel. Meanwhile, it’s time to pop your veggies on the BBQ grill; aubergine, garlic, courgettes, onions and tomatoes will all grill beautifully. Once grilled, chop it all up, adding fresh oregano and parsley. As you prepare to serve, lay a block of feta cheese on the grill to char on each side. Spoon the bulgar wheat a bowl, add the veggies and top with the feta and sprinkling of herbs.

Vegan Delights

And for the Vegans...

For any vegans in attendance, tofu skewers will go down a storm. They couldn’t be easier to prepare and you can tailor the recipe to suit your guests. Start by marinating the tofu. You can use oil, soy sauce and salt flakes, barbecue sauce, mustard, coconut milk and turmeric… the choices are endless. Once the tofu has soaked up all the flavours, thread it onto skewers, alternating with courgette, onion, aubergine, pepper and mushroom. Grill until crispy and enjoy.

Host with the most

Create a party atmosphere with a small, separate bar area or set up a perfect outdoor photobooth with a statement seating area and thoughtfully placed plants and hanging baskets. And when it’s time for some extra entertainment, you simply can’t go wrong with the classics. Lawn games such as skittles and croquet never fail to get everyone involved.
