Hot Cross bread & butter pudding recipe
Need a quick dessert to serve your guests? Celebrate Easter with a twist on the classic hot cross bun, who would have thought that by adding a few simple ingredients we’d make a tasty pud perfect for our long weekend! We all love hot cross buns as a tasty treat, but why not that go little further and turn it into a sweet desert ideal for entertaining. Who says simple can’t be effective!

You’ll need: a roasting tin
Ingredients
6 hot cross buns
25g butter
75g dark chocolate chips
2 large egg
250ml milk
1 tbsp caster sugar
Optional
- For a really moist pudding add custard
- For a grown up kick add a touch of brandy
- Add cinnamon or vanilla for an extra sweet treat
Method
- Preheat the oven to 170c (gas mark 3)
- Cut the hot cross buns in half & butter each side
- Sprinkle over half of the chocolate chips and sandwich back together in the baking dish
- In a bowl beat the egg, milk and sugar together
- Pour over the hot cross buns and scatter the remaining chocolate chips
- Bake for 30-35 minutes until everything has set
It’s that easy, serve it on its own or if you fancy with cream, vanilla ice cream or custard. Whatever takes your fancy!
