Earlier in the week we introduced you to our blogger experts who we’ll be working with closely over the coming year, getting their take on the Kaleidoscope collection and hopefully providing you with some hints and tips on how to work your style! For her first outfit, Rachel from Lady M Presents has focused on a new workwear outfit. Here she gives us the lowdown on why she chose this selection.
The Check Knit Dress
This dress is a really great, modern design, perfect for styling up for the office with a smart look and dressing up for a night out. Multifunctional and perfect for the cold weather we have just had as it’s a gorgeous knit. But it will see me through Spring as it’s a lightweight knit. I love the design; it’s a little “MadMen”.
Fiorelli Croc Bag
Fiorelli design great handbags. I won’t admit how many I have! This Croc Bag is a great texture for a classic look and it is so roomy it is perfect for a day in the office, packing in all my essentials.
Panel Trim Court Shoes
I’m not one to wear black shoes normally. This pair of Panel Print Court Shoes is a great compromise. A little print mixed with a classic black suede. Something a little special for the office whilst remaining smart. Perfect for a bit of glitz at the end of the day in the wine bar, post work.
Editor: What are your workwear fashion resolutions for 2015?
Rotation of handbags is my resolution. It’s a bit of a mission making sure everything is moved from bag to bag but I have a few bags I always use and I want to mix it up a little. A brightly coloured bag is a great way to add depth to an outfit, plus your own style. You can be wearing a black suit and a simple blouse, but bold shoes (I rarely wear black shoes!) and a stylish handbag can really set up an outfit to allow you to stand out from the commuter crowd.
How often do you de-clutter your wardrobe?
I’ve just moved house, so this has been my chance to de-clutter. I do try to do it at the beginning of each season. Checking out what have been favourite pieces, what key basics need replacing and putting anything that hasn’t been worn for at least 8 months into the charity clothing bag. I find it really therapeutic to have a wardrobe clear out, put everything back in and order and have a refreshed set of clothes for the new season.
What key trends will you be showcasing at work this season?
I’m going to embrace the pencil skirt this season. It’s a classic for the office but I want to mix it with the latest trends; a pastel blue suede pencil skirt would be perfect for the office. Blue is a key colourway for SS15 and suede is the texture trend of choice.
Your biggest fashion faux pas at work?
There was the time a few years ago when I wore stockings under a pencil skirt to work. Sadly the elastic at the top of them wasn’t so great and midway through a meeting I realised that if I was to stand up then they would fall down! I had to try to get out of the meeting room as carefully as possible and never wore stockings again to the office!
What’s the one thing in your wardrobe you could not live without?
Boden’s bistro crop trousers! I have them in so many prints and colourways. They really suit my body shape and are great for work. I tend to mix prints quite a lot and they add a little definition and style to my workwear wardrobe. I’m not really a skirt suit kind of a girl, so printed cropped trousers are a great way for me to be smart in the office but under my own style rules
You have slept through your alarm and you’re late for work! Any quick and easy beauty tips?
I always moisturise no matter how late I am. A good moisturiser can be a great base for any makeup and it can really make you look prepped and ready for the day. Think about your skin now and it will thank you later. Dry shampoo is a great saviour in a late-alarm moment. Spray it on, brush it through and your hair gets an instant uplift. Normally in this situation I end up putting my hair up in a high ponytail. This also gives a little mini facelift so I can get away with a little less eye makeup!
