8 Summer Skincare Tips for Healthy Skin

Posted In: Fashion

Like packing away your winter clothes to make way for your summer wardrobe, you may need to make some changes to your skincare routine during the warmer months.

Increased humidity and higher temperatures can play havoc with your skin. To help you get the best summer skin, we’ve put together our favourite tips for better skin below.

1. Apply sunscreen

We can’t say it enough. Don’t skip on applying sunscreen during your summer skin care routine. Be sure to choose at least a 30 SPF product and apply in the morning (and throughout the day as needed). It’s a good idea to choose a sunscreen specifically formulated for your face, as this will be kind to your skin and won’t clog your pores.

2. Go lightweight

Heavier products are often a good choice for winter, but your summer skincare routine might warrant something a little lighter. Gentle foaming products are often a good choice and can counteract the effects of humidity and high temperatures.

3. Keep moisturising

While it might seem counterintuitive to moisturise skin that feels oilier during the summer months, don’t skip out on your moisturiser during your summer skin care routine. Heavier moisturisers or oils can clog up your skin, so opt for a lightweight moisturiser instead. You could even choose one with an SPF, which would mean you don’t have to apply both a sunscreen and a moisturiser.

4. Amp up your exfoliation

Your skin can feel stressed during the summer months. While it’s important not to over-exfoliate, slowly increasing the amount of exfoliating you do might help to unclog pores and remove excess oils. Depending on your requirements, choose a gentle exfoliator that works with your summer skin care products.

5. Don’t over wash

When the weather is warmer, it can make your skin feel oilier. It’s tempting to wash your skin more regularly than usual to combat the effects of higher temperatures and humidity. However, washing your skin too much (especially with water that’s too hot) could cause your skin to dry out and ultimately increase oil production.

6. Invest in a good serum

Serums can be a good addition to your summer skincare routine. They deliver a high concentration of ingredients directly into your skin and are best used after cleansing and before moisturising. During the summer months, we suggest including a serum with vitamin C to prevent hyperpigmentation.

7. Choose non-comedogenic products

Non-comedogenic products have been designed to prevent your pores from clogging. These are often the best choice for summer skin, as they feel lighter and reduce the likelihood of blemishes and breakouts. Look for non-comedogenic skincare products, as well as in your makeup routine.

8. Keep hydrated

Even the best summer skincare products need some support from you. Staying hydrated all year round is important, but even more so in the summer. The warmer temperatures can make you feel dehydrated, which has an impact on your skin. Be sure to drink plenty of water to help support your summer skincare routine.
