Alternative Guide to…Singapore …..Formula 1

If you’re more into shrugs and boleros, and the hottest autumn trends, then the end of September, for you, is probably more likely to be filled with all things Fashion Week rather than the Formula 1 taking place in Singapore this month. But fear not ladies, this post could convince every car-phobe out there to hop on a plane to Singapore whilst the Grand Prix is going on. There’s just so much to do in Marina Bay where the race is hosted so it’s totally worth a visit, grand prix or no grand prix.

The aim of the bay is to be a 24/7 destination for city living and lifestyle – a hub for people to exchange new ideas, experiences and information for business, alongside rich leisure and cultural experiences. The bay has a motto that all developments within the marina should adhere to; Explore, Exchange and Entertain – so it’s the perfect place to learn all about Singapore and immerse yourself in the culture.

If you’re after bustling shopping malls alongside a stunning waterfront promenade then you’ve got to spend time perusing the many shopping districts like Esplanade, Suntec City, Marina Square and Raffles City Shopping Centre. The Waterfront Promenade is 3.5km long so if walking is more your thing then why not spend an afternoon soaking up the scenery, strolling along at your leisure?

Speaking of leisure, make a pit stop at the eco-friendly visitor centre, and The Promontory @ Marina Bay – it’s a space used for theatres and carnivals so check the calendar before you go to see if anything spectacular is going on (FYI – they do a fantastic New Year’s Eve Countdown).

If green open space is more your cup of tea then make sure you visit the Gardens by the Bay. There’s a whopping 101-hectare garden – made up of Bay South, Bay East and Bay Central Garden which surround the Singapore River. The three stunning gardens are connected by pedestrian bridges that loop the whole waterfront. The gardens are brimming with ‘edutainment’; garden craftsmanship and floral artistry to name a few.

And ladies, if the Grand Prix really isn’t your thing, the race takes place at night so it’s a pretty magical experience, what with the fireworks and entertainment leading up to the race, so regardless of your lack of interest in cars, you’ll have a great time!
