Posted In: Home and Lifestyle

2020 saw a significant shift in the way we work out. The global pandemic forced many of us to spend more time indoors, and lots of people jumped on the virtual training bandwagon and took to exercising outdoors.

But what will the future of fitness look like for us exercise fanatics? Read on to discover the top 5 fitness trends which are set to make an appearance in 2021.

Wearable Technology

The wearable fitness gadget trend has experienced a rise in popularity in recent years, and this rise will continue in 2021. Fitness tracking devices allow the wearer to assess their progress as they exercise, as well as gauge any adjustments they should make to their routine to achieve their desired goals.

From state-of-the-art smart watches to basic fitness trackers, these devices use innovative technology to improve the quality of exercise sessions. It’s likely that we’ll see advancements in this technology throughout 2021 and beyond.

Virtual training sessions

Most of us spent more time indoors in 2020, and virtual training sessions became the new norm. Instead of heading to the gym for our weekly Zumba class, we experienced coaching through a screen instead.

Virtual training sessions are super convenient and allow us to work out at our own pace in the comfort of our home. As life regains some sort of normality in 2021, many of us will continue to choose virtual classes over other alternatives for the foreseeable future.

Even though we’re working out from home, it’s still important that we feel comfortable and confident in our sporty attire. Check out our activewear and trainers pages for lots of on-trend outfits.

Outdoor fitness

The global pandemic has prompted us to rethink the way we work out, including where we work out. Since lots of gyms stayed shut in 2020, many people have now taken to the great outdoors to complete their exercise routines.

Whether this means going for a daily run through the park or getting stuck into an abs workout in the garden, the outdoor fitness trend is certainly on the rise. And it’s showing no signs of stopping. Many of us will ditch the indoor gym for good in 2021.

Free weight training

Free weight training involves using exercise equipment that doesn’t need to be bolted to the floor. Free weight training equipment includes:

  • Dumbbells
  • Kettlebells
  • Barbells

Rather than relying on heavy machinery for your workouts, free weights allow you to pick up and move your equipment so you can control exactly how you use it. In 2021, people will continue to invest in free weights as they work out from home. If you’re looking to get active, try out this trend for yourself.

HITT Yoga

HIIT (high intensity interval training) took the fitness world by storm in 2020. HIIT workouts involve short bursts of intense exercise followed by longer rest periods. They’re a great way to burn calories and improve stamina.

But have you heard of HIIT yoga? Combining elements of both high-intensity training and yoga, this unique fitness trend is set to gain popularity in 2021. Essentially, it involves a blend of fast-paced activity and traditional yoga stretching to offer a full workout for your body.
