Cocktail dresses; how to get the celebrity look

As ever, last week’s Golden Globes were crammed with glamorous gowns and cocktail dresses. Whilst we may not be nominated for a Golden Globe award (well, not this year anyway!) there’s nothing stopping us from bringing a touch of the red carpet into our lives. Elegant dresses are in abundance in the catalogue shopping world. After all, celebrities wouldn’t trudge the high-street, so why should you? We’ve put together some of our favourite cocktail dresses, inspired by celebrities and encourage you all to go ‘all out glamorous’ at your next special event. Don’t worry though, the price tags remain ‘home shopping catalogue’ not ‘Hollywood!’

Red carpet = red cocktail dresses

This year it wasn’t just the carpet that stood out in bright red; the celebrities were head to toe in red too! Make a statement we say. Long red cocktail dresses exude elegance, as you can see on the magazine piece featured here. Kristina Hendricks (super-star of the TV series Mad Men) wears this elegant red crepe one-shouldered number by Romona Keveza’s. The floral shoulder detail really makes this dress stand out – now you can too – for a fraction of the price! Our red shoulder maxi dress (as featured in Look magazine) with corsage and a waterfall front is the closest you will get. Look red hot in this elegant dress for just £89.

Classic black cocktail dresses

It’s not just us normal folk that rely on the powers of the classic black dress, believe it or not! The celebs do too. A black dress is the easiest way to flatter any figure so if it isn’t broken don’t fix it. That’s the theory that many of the celebs applied at this year’s awards, including the gorgeous Halle Berry (huge movie star) and Eva Longoria (from Desperate Housewives). As usual, we’ve got a great range of elegant dresses in black to get the celebrity style, at a steal!

Elegant dresses with sequin, celebrity sparkle

Catalogue shopping trends have always included sequins and now it seems we’re not alone! The younger generation and now even celebrities have jumped on the band wagon, as we saw in the lead up to Christmas. It’s great to see that the sequined look isn’t going anywhere, as Angelina Jollie and Nicole Kidman proved at this year’s awards. If sequins are good enough for award winning actresses, they sure are good enough for us! Dig out your sequined dresses (we can’t afford a new dress for every do!) or treat yourself to something new. We just love this halter-neck two tone dress and this sparkle long dress. Add some red-carpet sparkle without digging for diamonds! Who would have thought home shopping catalogues could be so glamorous?

So there you have it, simple inspiration from the world’s greatest style icons. It always pays to see what celebs are wearing and follow their lead. Next time you pick up a magazine don’t be envious, be inspired. Plus, who doesn’t like a good old day-dream? See you at the next award ceremony ladies!

Who would you like to walk the red carpet with?
