London Fashion Week – real advice for real women

London Fashion Week Style

We’ve taken the extreme cat-walk creations by highly paid (and highly strung) designers and translated them it into real-life ladies fashion for real-life ladies like you. We’ve summarised these into 2 pieces of practical ladies fashion advice (without the cheek kissing!):

  1. Be classic NOT dowdy
  2. Bring back the 70’s

Ladies fashion – classic NOT dowdy

The main thing we noticed this year was the huge amount of attention given to Samantha Cameron’s wardrobe throughout London Fashion Week. The poor Prime Minister’s wife was under enormous pressure to look her best all week, with some of the fashion world’s most fierce and catty critics watching her every move.  The main thing she got right and was praised for was that she dressed appropriately for her age and her sensible role without looking dowdy or dull. Now that’s something we’d all love to learn!

Here’s how to wear sensible ladies clothes, with class and pizzazz.

• Wear classic skirts. Pencils never fail and the pleated/floaty mid-calf length skirt is back with a bang! We’ve plenty of these so be sure to team them with a smart shirt/blouse tucked in and high court shoes.
• Smart, clean tailoring never fails. A good fitting pair of trousers in a long-lasting material will shout ‘classic’ especially when teamed with a tailored shirt, blazer or smart mac. Try our new Workwear shop for classic looks that aren’t dull.
• A classic shift dress will never let you down. We need say no more!
• Black is classic for good reasons; it’s timeless and flattering.

Bring back the 70’s – ladies fashion revivals

Ladies fashion seems like an ever-spinning wheel with the same trends coming back round time and time again. It’s a great excuse to horde your clothes! Never mind a good clear out, opt to store your clothes and have a good root in your fashion time capsule every now again. This way you’ll always be in fashion! London Fashion Week 2011 brought some of our favourite 70’s looks back, for the umpteenth time. Don’t cringe; this time round it’s looking better than ever. Remember to add a hint of 70’s rather than a full blown fancy dress outfit. Step away from the disco flares and white platforms and into 70’s chic. The contemporary 70’s look in ladies fashion starts here.

  • Flares and wide leg trousers are the way forward. Think well tailored, high-waists flares or crinkled wide leg trousers. Much more flattering than the tapered trouser we’ve been squeezing into so embrace the flare with open arms!
  • Wedges are here to stay. Did they ever go anywhere? Any shoes, as long as they have a wedge, are on-trend and we’ve got plenty! Team with skirts, summer dresses or trousers. A comfortable way to add some height and 70’s chic.
  • Oranges, blues and browns are back. Having flash backs to some dodgy old photographs? Banish these thoughts and replace them with images of blue silks, orange chiffons and tan shades teamed with neutral creams and denim.
  • Get excited about these key trends in ladies fashion and have your own little catwalk show at home.

    Don’t forget the ‘bubbly’ darling!
