London Fashion Week in Review

Fashion Week in Review

Posted In: Fashion

London Fashion Week has drawn to a close, and there were plenty of new trends to get excited about. With so many shows to see, it can be hard to keep up with the latest, so we’ve done all of the hard work for you and rounded up everything from the runways that’ll be hot in AW18. But better still – get a head-start with these items from our current collection.

Go Wild

Leopard Print MulesAnimal Print Maxi Dress

From tiger stripes and zebra print to leopard spots, designers went wild for animal prints at fashion week. Outerwear was the focus; with leopard print blazers, trenches and coats stealing the show at Gareth Pugh, Victoria Beckham and Michael Kors. How to wear it now? Team your jeans with a pair of leopard print mules or pack an animal print maxi dress in your summer suitcase.

Sleeves and Shoulders

Blouson Sleeve BlousesOff-the-shoulder Dress

From JW Anderson to Simone Rocha and Peter Pilotto, sleeves and shoulders were the talking point of the AW18 shows. The influence of the 1980s shone through in power dressing-inspired shoulder pads, puffy mutton sleeved dresses and blouses, while frills and cold shoulder cuts continued to embrace modern femininity. Get the look now with slouchy blouson sleeve blouses and off-the-shoulder dresses.

Cardigan Comeback

Light Cardigan with Embroidered Details in NavyLongline Knitted Waterfall Cardigan

Cardigans are about to have a huge revival thanks to their appearance on an array of catwalks. From slouchy, oversized cuts at British favourites Burberry and Pringle to prim and proper overtones with a twist at Holly Fulton and Margaret Howell, this is a trend that will bend to fit your style. A light cardigan will look chic thrown on over a shift dress or tucked into a midi skirt, while a longline knit is perfect for pairing with jeans and a blouse.

Trail Blazers

Bubblegum Pink Fluted Sleeved JacketBold Stripe Blazer

After last season’s tailoring revival, our penchant for clean lines and sharp cuts is going nowhere, as proved by the huge showing of blazers during fashion week. Moving on from classic suiting fabrics, Erdem gave us exquisite jacquard, Delpozo explored a palette of pastels and bubblegum brights, while Gabriela Hearst opted for contrast stitching and broad stripes. Taking it one step further, Alexander Wang, Dion Lee and Milly introduced blazer dresses; a style to set your sights on for the next special ocassion.

Go Long

Sleeveless Floral Maxi DressTailored Maxi Skirt in Black

Skirts and dresses dominated almost every catwalk, tapping into the new wave of femininity that’s currently guiding our wardrobes. The rule for AW18? Go long. From ankle-grazing to floor-sweeping, longer lengths set the tone in multiple shows including Coach, Oscar de la Renta and Roksanda. Take your cues from the elegant, floral maxi dresses at Michael Kors or echo the subtlety and clean lines that led the way at Nomia and Victoria Beckham with a softly tailored maxi skirt.

Which trend will you try first?
