Some people think that Java is the same as JavaScript, but this is not the case, they are completely separate to each other and are used in different ways.
What Exactly Is A Browser?
A browser is the programme you use to view websites. Popular browsers include Internet Explorer (IE), Firefox, Google Chrome, Safari and Opera. Each one of these browsers utilises JavaScript which can be enabled or disabled depending on personal preference.
How Do I Enable Javacript?
Depending on the browser you are using, depends on which steps you will need to take to enable JavaScript.
Internet Explorer (IE) - Version 9
- Click on the Gear icon, this is located in the upper right hand corner of your browser window. When the drop-down menu appears, just click on Internet options .
- From here you need to select the Security tab.
- Security options should now be displayed. Click on the Custom level... button.
- Internet Zone settings should now be displayed. Scroll down until you locate the Scripting section.
- To enable/disable JavaScript and other active scripting components in IE9, first locate the Active scripting subheading. Next, click on the accompanying Enable/Disable radio button. If you would rather be prompted each time a website attempts to launch any scripting code, select the Prompt radio button.
Firefox - All versions
- Click on the Tools button, located in the upper left menu of your browser. When the drop-down menu appears, click on options.
- Click on the Content Tab button, you will now see a checkbox (3rd down) which says 'Enable Javacript'. Make sure the checkbox is ticked to allow JavaScript.
Google Chrome - All versions
- Click on the Spanner icon, located in the upper right hand corner of your browsers window. When the drop-down menu appears, click on options.
- Select 'Under the Bonnet' from the 'left hand menu', you will now see a box at the top of the page which says 'content settings' which can click.
- Now you will see the JavaScript options which you can select to enable Javascript.
Safari - All versions
- Click on the Gear icon, located in the upper right hand corner of your browsers window. When the drop-down menu appears, click on Preferences.
- Select 'Security' tab.
- Now you will see the JavaScript checkbox which must be ticked to enable JavaScript.
Opera - All versions
- Click on the Opera icon, located in the upper left hand corner of your browsers window. When the drop-down menu appears, click on Settings and then Preferences.
- Select 'Advanced' tab and then select 'Content' in the left menu.
- Now you will see the JavaScript checkbox which must be ticked to enable JavaScript.
