What’s In A Colour?

Say hello to Ciara

Say Hello to Ciara

Having trained with Colour Me Beautiful, Ciara is clued-up on all things colour, helping her clients to build their confidence and improve their self-image through their choice of colour.

Ciara explains that ‘the secret to choosing the right colours lies in your natural colouring, your hair and eye colour and skin tone. The key is that what’s happening naturally is extended to your clothes and make-up. Simple! It’s this extension of your natural colouring that will make you look healthier, younger and more confident'.

We invited Ciara to meet with three fashion bloggers to put this idea into practice and to create videos full of hints and tips on choosing the correct colours, which you can view below. We've also created a quick and easy way for you to find out colours will suit you best, based on your natural colouring. Why not try it out? Choosing the right colours is easier than you think!

It may not be something you think about on a daily basis, but every colour you choose to wear has a big impact on how you look, how you feel and how others perceive you.

However, with such a vast array of coloured clothing available, it can be difficult to know which colours will suit you best. So to help you find your perfect colour palette, we’ve teamed up with Ciara O’Grady, personal stylist and colour expert.

Meet Debs

The first thing you notice about Debs is her dark hair and bright eyes which is a very contrasting look. This means her colours need to be bright and jewel-like to compliment her eyes. Because of her contrasting look, she looks best in colour combinations with a strong contrast. She should wear light and dark colours together or light/dark and bright colours together to create a contrast, rather than wearing tone-on-tone colour combinations. Debs has lots of freckles which bring warmth to her skin, so bright colours with warmth will also compliment her natural colouring, for example warm greens, red and blues.

Meet Joy

Joy’s colouring is dark and strong as she has black hair, dark eyebrows and dark eyes. Her best colours are therefore deep and strong. The best combination of colours to flatter her natural colouring is dark colours like blacks brown and dark navy, worn with bright colours like hot pink and purple. Joy’s skin tone is on the cool side so she looks better in. blue-based colours rather than warm colours. So purples, pinks and blues will be best, rather than yellows and oranges. You can tell if you have a cool or warm skin tone by holding colours up to your face and seeing which ones compliment you best. The ones which suit your natural colouring will instantly make you look healthier and younger!

Meet Danni

Danni has warmth in her hair with light skin and eyes so she looks best in warm, yellow-based, colours worn with light colours. It is this combination of both warm and light colours that will make her look her best, for example golden brown and coral are a great combination for her. Danni should wear yellows and oranges to lift her natural colouring and avoid cooler colours like pinks and blues. She could also wear warm greens, such as jade green, to really bring out the green in her eyes.
