The Perfect Wedding Guest Outfit – #OOTD

So wedding season is upon us and love is in the air! As the wedding invites start to arrive, it’s time to think about what to wear. We posed this dilema to Debs, our Brand Ambassador from the blog Bang on Style and asked her to choose a wedding guest outfit from the Kaleidoscope collection.

Editor: Our calendars have been booked up with weddings as we hit the Summer season! You’re heading to a wedding soon and you have chosen this beautiful outfit. Why did you choose each item?

This 50’s style dress is the perfect choice for a wedding, it has a lovely classic shape but its bold print means you can work the dress for a variety of styles of wedding by accessorizing with different colours. I’ve pulled out the yellow in the dress by adding a yellow pair of classic shaped courts and a yellow bag but also tied in the black with a simple cardigan cover up with a pretty bow detail. You could also wear a white cover up with white fascinator for a different look altogether. I’ve chosen a larger sized bag rather than a clutch as I have lots of wedding essentials I like to take including my camera to capture the day, tissues for the possible tears, confetti for the photo op and even a pair of flats for dancing later!

Editor: Weddings can sometimes be a nightmare to dress for! Do you have any go-to looks, colours or styles when you’re unsure about the dress code?

Florals are always a winner for a wedding. Bright and colourful florals work brilliantly for a Spring/Summer wedding and try darker toned florals including black and white for Autumn/Winter weddings.

Editor: What’s your style advice for those attending a wedding abroad this year?

You honestly can’t go wrong with a maxi dress; they are so easy to dress up or down. Wear with simple flat sandals and a flower in your hair for a relaxed beach wedding or try platform wedges and some chunky gold jewellery for a glitzy Ibiza wedding.

Editor: The Mother of the Bride wants to stand out from the crowd while supporting her daughter as she gets married. What style tips can you offer her, so that she looks her best on the day?

She should pick a shape of outfit that she’ll be comfortable in but one that will make her feel fabulous. She shouldn’t stray too far from her usual style as it’s probably not the time for experimenting but I do approve of bold colour and prints on a Mother Of The Bride. She should try to avoid the same colour as the bridesmaids however I think. The printed dress with plain tailored jacket is always a winning combo and for good reason, it’s such a classic. My own mum wore a fabulous floral dress with rich blue jacket and looked stunning. The wedding day can be long so comfortable shoes I think are really important too.

Editor: Have you seen any wedding guest fashion faux pas?

I once saw a guest turn up to a wedding in a red dress that not only had a plunging neckline but had a spilt up to the thigh. Red and a sexy silhouette is not a good combo for a wedding I think.

Editor: Wearing white to a wedding, yay or nay?

I’m afraid it’s a nay. Only the bride should be in white on her wedding day I believe. When there are so many other choices of colour or prints there should be no reason to choose white.

Editor: Weddings can be long days and equally long nights. What are your tips to help your hair and make-up go the distance?

For makeup I’d definitely suggest a primer to keep your makeup in place. For the daytime keep your makeup simple and light, and then add a quick coat of mascara and a spot of lippy for the evening. Hair wise I think it’s worth carrying some extra hairclips and mini can of hairspray to sort out any hair disasters – hence the larger handbag! At my wedding I put baskets in the ladies with all sorts of essentials like hairspray for the guests to use.

Editor: Best wedding you were ever at?

Well I’m probably biased but it would have to be my own. The weather was fabulous, we got married outside at a stunning manor house and we all spent the whole day laughing and happy with family and friends. The night ended with an amazing band and phenomenal fireworks. It was the best day ever.
